So proud to represent the City of Keene - and people who care so deeply about their neighbors.

Tonight I joined community members and local and state elected officials, including City Councilors Catt Workman, Bobby Williams, and Laura Ruttle-Miller and State Reps Terri O’Rorke and Nick Germana, in Keene following reports of ICE enforcement activity in the city earlier today. There was also an ICE presence reported in Lebanon on Friday.

People in our communities are concerned, and they deserve answers about what is happening - including whether New Hampshire State Police or other state resources are being used in these operations.

I am asking Attorney General Formella for answers about whether State Police were involved in either Keene or Lebanon.

Whatever our views on federal immigration policy, New Hampshire residents deserve transparency about when and how their own state government is participating in federal immigration enforcement.

I’m grateful to everyone who came out tonight to stand up for our neighbors and our community. This is the New Hampshire I know and love. ❤️

I’m proud to receive the @MomsRising Moms’ Seal of Approval on Child Care! I’ll keep fighting to make quality child care more accessible and affordable for New Hampshire families—and to support the workforce that makes it possible.

The Executive Council recently voted down $1.2 million in federal funds to provide professional development opportunities to early childhood educators. Too many of our elected officials don’t see childcare as critical infrastructure. We need more moms at the table!

🚧 On the Road with @new_hampshiredot - Summer 2026 (Part 1 of 3)

Last week I joined NH DOT Commissioner David Rodrigue for the first of three summer tours of transportation projects across District 2.

We visited West Lebanon, Charlestown, Alstead, Hinsdale, Keene, Marlborough, Acworth, and Sunapee - meeting with the engineers managing these projects and hearing directly from local officials, legislators, and community members about what’s working and where challenges remain.

As an Executive Councilor, I help oversee the state’s Ten-Year Highway Plan and major transportation investments. Getting out into our communities to see these projects firsthand makes me a better advocate for District 2 and a better steward of taxpayer dollars.

Thank you to Commissioner Rodrigue, the NH DOT team, our local officials, and everyone who took the time to meet with us.

This was Tour #1 of three. I’ll be back on the road with the DOT in August and September to continue visiting projects across the district.

I have had the good fortune to be with my children in the land of my birth on my birthday, occasioned by a wonderful visit to my 101-year old grandmother. Counting my blessings for sure. Cheers to 48! 🥰🥂💗

At this week’s Executive Council meeting, I voted against the proposed Bitcoin-backed bond. My vote was not a vote against Bitcoin, cryptocurrency, or innovation. It was a vote for prudence.

Throughout history, financial innovation has sometimes created tremendous opportunity - but it has also sometimes outpaced our understanding of its long-term risks. The 2008 financial crisis reminded us that products once promoted as innovative and sophisticated could ultimately create devastating consequences. (Remember mortgage-backed securities and credit default swaps?)

Although this proposal did not place taxpayer dollars directly at risk, it asked a New Hampshire state authority to approve a first-of-its-kind financing structure that many people would reasonably view as carrying the State’s credibility. I was not prepared to make that leap. When there is uncertainty and the State’s reputation is involved, caution is an appropriate form of stewardship.

Five communities. Three parades. One fantastic Independence Day.

Yesterday, I celebrated with friends and neighbors in Concord, Andover, Woodstock, Lincoln, and Canterbury - where the day ended with music, dancing, and community.

Thank you to everyone who organized these wonderful celebrations and to everyone who came out to celebrate together. Days like these remind me how fortunate I am to represent Executive Council District 2.

As we celebrate 250 years of American Independence, I’m especially proud that New Hampshire helped lead the way by adopting our own constitution in January 1776 - months before the Declaration of Independence and years before the US Constitution.

To me, patriotism means believing in the promise of America and doing the work to help us live up to it - to protect our freedoms, strengthen our democracy, and leave our communities better than we found them.

Today I’ll be celebrating with neighbors across Executive Council District 2 in Concord, Andover, and Woodstock/Lincoln. I hope to see many of you along the parade route.

For weeks, I’ve been hearing from constituents about the closure of a section of the Northern Rail Trail in Andover. The closure has forced walkers, runners, cyclists, and families onto a dangerous stretch of Route 4.

I raised this issue at the last two Executive Council meetings, and I am encouraged that the Attorney General has taken legal action seeking to restore public access while this dispute is resolved through the courts.

The Northern Rail Trail is one of New Hampshire’s greatest recreational assets. It belongs to the people of New Hampshire, and it should be safe and accessible for everyone who enjoys it.

I hope this matter is resolved quickly so the trail can reopen and people can once again use it safely.

As Pride Month comes to a close, my heart is full - and today, it’s also heavy.

This month I had the privilege of celebrating Pride with communities in Concord, Lebanon, New London, and Claremont. I was honored to present Executive Councilor commendations recognizing the volunteers, organizations, and community leaders who work all year long to create spaces where LGBTQ+ people know they belong. Those celebrations were filled with joy, hope, laughter, and love.

That is why it is especially heartbreaking that Pride Month ends with today’s US Supreme Court decision affecting transgender people. While the case centered on school sports, I know today’s decision has caused deep pain to many people across the nation and created uncertainty about what comes next.

But I also know this: A court decision does not determine a person’s worth.

Every trans young person deserves to know they are valued. Every LGBTQ+ person deserves to live openly, safely, and authentically. Every family deserves to know their government sees their pain.

I have been proud to stand with New Hampshire’s LGBTQ+ community this month - and I always will. Pride isn’t just a celebration. To me, it’s also a promise. A promise that we will keep working until every person is treated with dignity, respect, and equal opportunity.

To every trans person wondering what today’s decision means for the future, I want you to hear this:

You belong. You are loved. You matter.

This weekend, I had one of the greatest honors of my life: officiating the wedding of my best friend, Melissa, and her wonderful husband, Michael.

As I stood with them, surrounded by their children, grandchildren, family, and friends, it was a beautiful illustration that families aren’t always built in straight lines. They’re woven together through love, grace, resilience, second chances, and the choice to keep showing up for one another.

Melissa and Michael’s wedding wasn’t just about two amazing people saying “I do.” It was about six adult children, growing families, and a promise that no matter where life takes them - even halfway around the world to Cairo - their home will always be a place of welcome, love, and belonging.

Watching them exchange vows was unforgettable. Watching their children and grandchildren with them made it even more meaningful.

I was also grateful to have my own children, @marina_liot and @zsters06 , there with me. Moments like these remind me how precious family is, in all of its beautiful forms.

Congratulations, @melissaharris22 and @topshelfguvna ! Thank you for trusting me with such an important role in one of the happiest days of our lives. May your marriage be filled with laughter, adventure, peace, and all the love as you begin this incredible new chapter together.

One of the biggest challenges facing New Hampshire families is finding—and affording—quality child care.

I was honored to attend the ribbon cutting for the new and improved Early Learning Center at the Boys & Girls Club of the North Country in Lisbon. Thanks in part to American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding, this project transformed and expanded an existing building into a beautiful new early learning center that will create space for 56 infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. 👶

Projects like this are about so much more than a building. They help parents - especially moms - return to work, strengthen our workforce, support local employers, and give children a safe, nurturing place to learn and grow. As I’ve traveled throughout District 2, I’ve heard over and over that child care is one of the biggest barriers families face - and one of the biggest challenges for our economy. 🚸

Congratulations to the Boys & Girls Club staff, board members, supporters, and everyone who made this vision a reality. Investing in children is one of the smartest investments we can make in New Hampshire’s future. 💙

I had a fantastic day behind the scenes with the NH Fish & Game department learning more about the incredible work they do to protect our natural resources and support outdoor recreation across our state.

We started in Concord learning about efforts to restore the Karner blue butterfly — New Hampshire’s state butterfly — including the careful work happening in the lab to help this endangered species recover. 🦋

Then we headed to New Hampton to tour the state fish hatchery modernization project and learn more about the future of our hatchery system. We also met some of the 185,000 baby fish that are waiting for a little more room to grow before they are released into New Hampshire’s waters. 🐟

At last week’s Executive Council meeting, we approved a needed well reconditioning project at the Milford hatchery to increase capacity this year while construction continues in New Hampton.

These visits are one of my favorite parts of serving on the Executive Council — seeing firsthand the people, projects, and investments behind the decisions we make in Concord.

Thank you to the dedicated @nhfishandgame team for sharing your expertise and for the work you do every day to conserve New Hampshire’s wildlife, protect our environment, and preserve the outdoor traditions that are such an important part of life in the Granite State.🌲

Karen Liot Hill: Affordability isn’t a slogan; it’s a necessity

When I filed for re-election to the Executive Council last week, the Union Leader captured a photo of me holding up the $25 filing fee, which I paid for in singles.

It made me smile. Because while politics often focuses on big numbers — billion-dollar budgets, million-dollar contracts, and complicated financial debates — most families experience the economy one dollar at a time.

And I know the meaning of a dollar.

Before I was an Executive Councilor, a mayor, or an elected official, I was a waitress. I know what it feels like to work hard, stand on your feet all day, count your tips at the end of a shift, and hope it’s enough to pay the bills.

Later on, as the owner-operator of a downtown diner, I learned that lesson from another perspective. I know the stress of watching expenses rise and making sure there are enough dollars in the bank to cover payroll at the end of the week.

Whether you are an employee trying to stretch a paycheck or a small business owner trying to make the numbers work, every dollar matters.

And today, too many Granite Staters are feeling stressed out about money. People are working harder than ever and falling further behind. People who have worked hard to earn a modest retirement are stretching their dollars and running short. People are doing everything they’ve been told to do, but life keeps getting harder, not easier. Groceries cost more, rents keep rising, and property tax bills keep climbing faster than paychecks.

That is why I am running for re-election.

Because affordability is not a campaign slogan; it’s the difference between whether someone can stay in the community they love or whether property taxes force them out. It’s whether someone who has worked hard their entire life has to delay their retirement by several years. It’s whether a school district like Newport can afford to hire and retain great teachers, whether a small business owner can afford health insurance, and whether young people even have a shot at buying their first home.

I’m running again because there is more work to do. Families across our state are feeling squeezed by rising costs and property taxes, and they deserve leaders who are focused on making New Hampshire more affordable for regular people.

Over the past week, communities across Executive Council District 2 stepped up in a big way for the New Hampshire CPR Challenge. I’m incredibly proud to share that District 2 trained 400 Granite Staters in Hands-Only CPR during EMS Week!!

From fire stations and schools to community organizations and local businesses, people across our district came together to learn a simple skill that can truly save lives. I’m grateful to everyone who helped make District 2 a leader in this statewide effort.

This challenge was the best kind of competition - one where everyone wins. More people in New Hampshire are now prepared to help a neighbor, friend, coworker, or loved one during those critical first moments of a cardiac emergency.

Thank you to every fire department, EMS professional, trainer, volunteer, host organization, and participant who made this effort possible. And thank you to my fellow Executive Councilors for joining together in this bipartisan initiative focused on protecting our communities. I hope the New Hampshire CPR Challenge will become an annual tradition that will make our state first-in-the-nation for survival from cardiac arrest.
